The Growth Network

The Growth Network was founded by three experienced school leaders with a combined 75+ years in education.

James, Laura and Lucy have all held senior leadership roles and understand the reality of middle leadership - not from theory, but from having lived it.

They've built this network because they know what's missing: peer support, professional supervision, and the permission to lead sustainably.

Who We Are

Laura Edgar

Laura has worked in schools for 40 years, including 14 years in senior leadership, where she has focused on Curriculum Development, English, and Literacy. Her efforts have not only contributed to the academic success of her own school but also to middle leaders support across others, fostering resilience communities and enhancing wellbeing in schools.

Dr James Wood

With more than 25 years of experience as a teacher and over 15 years in senior leadership, James has been actively involved in all areas of school leadership, particularly emphasising the importance of middle leaders support, school culture, and improvement to foster resilience communities and enhance wellbeing in schools.

Lucy Floyer

Lucy Floyer

Lucy has over 25 years of experience in education, including 18 years in leadership and advisory work across primary, secondary and special education. She is an experienced leadership coach, mentor and NPQ trainer, with specialisms in curriculum design, teaching and learning, and literacy. Lucy believes great leaders don't come from nowhere - they need the right support to grow.

James is an excellent teacher and leader, who knows how to get good results, especially in supporting middle leaders within our resilience communities.

School Leader

Why we started The Growth Network

The pandemic forced school leaders to confront an uncomfortable truth: the way we were working wasn't sustainable, and simply working harder wasn't the answer.

James, Laura and Lucy also recognised a gap. There's support for early career teachers, support for senior leaders and headteachers - but middle leaders are often left to navigate the most intense phase of leadership entirely on their own.

The Growth Network was founded to fill that gap. They believe many of the problems middle leaders face aren't solved by doing more, they're solved by approaching things differently. By getting clear on what actually matters, drawing professional boundaries, and having a space to think rather than just react.

Middle leaders need more than tips and strategies. They need peer support, professional supervision, and the permission to lead in a way that's both effective and sustainable.

Our Values

The Growth Network is built on two core values:

Integrity

Integrity

Integrity

Doing the job well, with clarity and purpose, leading in a way that's effective and sustainable.

Dignity

Integrity

Integrity

Protecting your wellbeing, your relationships, and your life outside school. Refusing the belief that great teaching requires personal sacrifice.

We believe you can have both.

In fact, we believe you must have both, because leaders who are burning out at home can't show up fully at work, no matter how hard they try.

Our work is about helping school leaders find that balance - not as an aspiration, but as a practical, daily reality.
